RICHLY GIFTED BUT POORLY PAID

WHOSE TELLING THE TRUTH?TS Records co-owner
Thembinkosi Nciza, Songbird Zahara and her parents
Mr and Mrs Mkutukana at a media
conference at Ragent Hotel in East London. source

It is said that one shouldn’t believe everything they read in the newspapers because it isn’t always true. Clearly Zahara agrees with this statement, which is why she tweeted as follows, “papers may write whatever they want but I know I have been a great kid to my family and TS too has been good to me and my family”. link

This comes after an article which was published in the tabloid newspaper, Sunday World on 15 April 2012, claiming that TS records is milking and exploiting the songbird link. This story had the star’s fans expressing their rage on social media.

The multi award nominee is now on a quest to do damage control using a crisis management plan to restore her record label’s tainted name. She was on radio stations such as Metro FM and Umhlobo Wenene and recently appeared on the front cover of Move Magazine defending TS Records and reassuring her fans that she isn't being exploited.
If these accusations are indeed true then it is obvious that the co-owners of TS Records, Thembinkosi Nciza and Sibusiso Leope do not know the importance of a positive corporate image.

In this industry of music you can never be guaranteed of where and when your next meal will come from, which is why TS records should cross their fingers and pray that their fans will not stop visiting music stores to buy any TS productions due to this unfortunate setback.

It’s time that our musicians learnt the importance of business skills and financial management to avoid situations like these.

  1. I think its very important that TS records goes out there and defend their name because at the end of the day we cannot say newspapers are trying to sabotage TS records.

    1. a press conference was held in the Eastern Cape, hopefully TS Records and Zahara were able set the record straight.

  2. at this stage i think its better if the TS records together with Zahara hold a media conference to set the record straight, so that people stop believing what ever they read on news papers.

  4. TS Records was supposed to explain to Zaharas family about how musicians get paid, I think if they educate the poor family their name was not going to be bad mouthed and Zahara was not going to be a victim at all. This should be a lesson to other music labels who are developing rural areas musician from the illiterate family.

    1. TS Records doesn't owe Zahara's family anything. TS signed a contract with Zahara not the family, so they must simply butt out.Zahara is not underage.

  5. clearly TS records did not even educate zahara herself about the payments in and of the music industry because if she new from the start then her poor family wouldn't be in this position, but the damage is done now and all is left is for TS records to start with damage control, fortunalty their song bird is helping with damage control shem.

    1. That is why it is important for our artists to be educated about financial management etc, to avoid incidents such as these.

  6. Atleast Zahara put the record straight but then its rare that she's so broke because I don't think her family would lie about her like that, what would they gain from it???

    1. free PUBLICITY. I hope I answered your question.

    2. For what? Coz they are not getting paid for it and it sure as hell won't do Zahara any good.

    3. Maybe they are just bitter because zahara doesn't give them as much as they had expected. or meybe they are simply jealous

    4. BULL!!! I read in the magazine that Zahara said that the reason she hasn't bought a house is because she is waiting for her tax things to be approved...now it only takes two weekws for those things to be approved and she has been in the industry for over 6 monthws. Now how do you explain that? I think she is covering up for them, why? I don'tr know. But something is definately not right about her story.

    5. Just because she has been in the industry for six months it doesnt mean that she is ready to splash out and buy expensive thingsetc, she is still weighting her options if I may put it way. This is partly the reason we see our celebrities beign broke because they do not plan for their money they just SPEND SPEND SPEND SPEND.

    1. Maybe she is just being loyal to them because TS Records gave her her big break when no one else was willing to do so.

    1. Only they know the truth and we didn't sign on the dotted line Zahara did,so if she feels she is happy with the wy she is being treated then thats her own problem all we can do as fans is to continue supporting her music even though she wont benefit as much as she should.

  9. I also have to agree with you that it’s time for our musicians to start learning business skills and how to handle they finances.

    1. I'm glad you feel the same way. Zahara's family must also understand that Zahara signed on the dotted line, not them so they should let Zahara handle her finances her own way.

  10. I second what you say, "We shouldn't believe what is on newspapers" but i think oral communication is more credible than printed communication it will be batter if Zahara and her current recording lable start organising press conference to address the media formally unlike keeping silent.

    1. A press conference was held lastweek in Zahara's hometown, Eastern Cape. Hopefully that helped clear the air.

  11. I think our country is known for corruption because even people in government practise’s corruption, so in other words corruption is everywhere even in the music business, so musicians should just be on the look out

    1. this has created an impression of turning a blind eye and just accepting that corruption is there an there is nothing we can do about it.

  12. I think Zahara does not have much knowledge about how she should be paid or about contracts. She is also defending TS Records and TS Records is also taking advantage of her. The bad thing about this situation is that both Zahara's and TS Records' reputation is at stake, their image can be ruined. The question is, how they will handle this bad publicity?

    1. They had a press conference to adress the matter and hopefully this cleared both TS and Zahara's name.

  13. I think we should all take the factual side of the storie because it is clearly that what the media had reported seem to invalid since Zahara came out of the closet about all this and if we fail to believe what she is saying then we are all misleading ourselves,But if she is misused some how and hiding it i think thats her own baby to take care off.

    1. exactly my poiny. Zahara is the one that signed on the dotted line not us, so if she is happy with how she is treated than we must just be her supporting fans and accept it.

  14. These allegations are totally unnecesary and Sunday World newspaper should just fire their source as its not reliable

    1. There was an article wher sonebody requested that Sunday World should apologise to Zahara for publishing the article without facts,Sunday World refused to do so because they claimed that their sources beign Zahar's siblings are reliable.

      Delete
  15. Clearly Zahara is being bullied to say all these nice things about TS records, if she wants to be exploited let it be.

  16. that our jounalist and they realling losing it not really having proper invstiation and source for their story. this is ruining Sowetan's image i mean if they are not having factual stories they will lose their target audience

    1. Sunday World claimed that its sources are reliable which is Zahar's siblings. they wouldnt lie about such things, this was the arguement amongst other people.

  17. Sometimes the media just blows things out of proportion when they do not get what they what especially at the cost of someones dignity and that is wrong.

  19. For me the newspapers won't just say something if there isnt anything that is fishy so for me there is something going on and the media is not going to stop until it finds it and we all know how the media works clearly always fishing for something.

  20. Zahara is defending same people who all talking about. maybe she has a degree from ''california'' like queen moroka's real hubby we all dont know about.or we not giving her credit and not trusting her word cause she is from rural areas? the woman speaks highly of the calprits

  21. One thing thats disheartening in the South African music industry is artists not being compensated and being paid what they worked for. royalties are being corrupted in record labels
